IB Lingo:
Diploma Programme (DP): Takes place during the student’s Jr. and Sr. year
Grades 9 and 10 are preparation years. Students take Pre-AP in all core subjects. Students take AP classes in the Social Studies courses to prepare. The same teachers that teach IB and AP courses teach the Pre-AP courses at the 9th and 10th grade levels. All 9th grade students take an Ethics class that is only offered to IB students.
HL: High Level Tests
EE: Extended Essay (up to a 4,000 word essay; begins in the junior year and is completed during the senior year)
TOK: Theory of Knowledge (two 1 semester classes; 1 is taken the 2nd semester of the junior year; 1 is taken the first semester of the senior year)
IA: Internal Assessment; part of the concurrency of learning for IB; each IA counts for part of the student’s final IB test grade (more on assessments here)

- Students take 3 SL tests; up to 2 may be taken their Jr. Year. 1 SL course must be taken over 2 years

- The IA value may range from 20%-50% depending on the subject
- IB tests are called “papers”; students normally take two papers/tests per subject (but it could be 3); exceptions: music has only one paper; art does not have a paper
